CRITICAL FIRE SEASON

Fire Season is especially critical this year.
The combination of low humidity, no rain, dense and dry brush, and Santa Ana winds are a huge threat to the Santa Monica Mountains. Case in point: a fire broke out January 14th around the 1200 block of Old Topanga Canyon Road. Approximately 2 acres of land burned. The winds caused some spot fires, but they were extinguished with the help of air support. Old Topanga Canyon was immediately cut off on both ends allowing only emergency responders access to the area. A command post was located at Viewridge. The fire was 100% contained within 4 hours, but resources remained throughout the night. Many thanks to T-CEP, who was right on top of getting the word out in the canyon

In case of future incidents, follow T-CEP's Emergency Status Monitor, Facebook and Twitter pages.

The Topanga UUD project will remove the potential 'fire' hazards caused by downed power-lines and improve the area aesthetics by undergrounding the overhead utility lines.  The project is located on Topanga Canyon Boulevard between Cuesta Cala Road and approximately 300 feet north of the Verizon building and Old Topanga Canyon Road between Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Riding Lane in the unincorporated County of Los Angeles area of Topanga.

One of their primary activities is feeding on rodents such as rats, mice, squirrels and gophers so it's nice to know they are out there keeping down those populations for us.
